Planning the Route

At this point in our planning, we have pretty much determined our route around the USA. Of course things can, and probably will, change.

We started with family that we’d like to visit, which in our case has a nice spread across the country, Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Arkansas and Maryland, also Texas and Kentucky, but we can’t do them all :( . Then we looked at possible routes between these stops, and checked for sites along the way we’d like to see.

We knew that we’d like to visit as many historical sites as reasonable along the east coast, as we have never been there, and may not ever get back with the kids again. We also have several ancestral sites along the way to visit. Throw in some national parks and a bit of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and we have our route.

Here is the state by state plan:
California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York again, Pennsylvania, Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, and back home to California. Whew!

Three Months to Departure

At this point, I don’t know if this will ever get posted, but I am writing it anyway.

It is said that you live a vacation at least three times.
Once during the planning, once while actually on the trip, and again every time you relive it through sharing the memories, photos and video. This blog will enhance every one of those ‘livings’.

While planning, we’ll post hopes, preparations, inspirations and destinations.

While on the trip we will post what we discover, how our planning worked out (or didn’t), and lots of photos.

When we return home, we’ll post reflections on the trip and what we learned.

We hope to make this blog worth reading, and that by following us along the way, you will be inspired to do something similar with your young family.
