We started with family that we’d like to visit, which in our
case has a nice spread across the country, Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Arkansas
and Maryland, also Texas and Kentucky, but we can’t do them all :( . Then we looked at
possible routes between these stops, and checked for sites along the way we’d
like to see.
We knew that we’d like to visit as many historical sites as
reasonable along the east coast, as we have never been there, and may not ever
get back with the kids again. We also
have several ancestral sites along the way to visit. Throw in some national
parks and a bit of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and we have our route.
Here is the state by state plan:
California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, New York again, Pennsylvania, Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North
Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, and back
home to California. Whew!
